The End of Star Wars Battlefront 2

When people ask me what my favourite video game of all time is I struggle to answer. I often think of games such as Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Ni no Kuni and Mario Galaxy. However with these games I always switched between going back and forth with other games at the same time. 1 game series has always stood above the others for me and that is Star Wars Battlefront!

The first game I ever played on my PS2 was Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) and if you’re anything like me you likely spent hours playing the game battling on some of the coolest planets and systems in the clone army.

When I heard they were making a new SWBF game in 2015 I was hyped beyond belief. Finally I could relive my early years in my favourite cinematic universe and the game did not disappoint. The community’s reaction was brilliant as well and with many DLC’s on the way everybody was excited to play what was definitely my favourite game of the decade.

With all the hype many of us did feel like something was missing, many of us felt like the prequels not being in the game left room for something more… something bigger… something better. Once SWBF2 was announced at E3 everybody could not believe how amazing the game looked! But more importantly we would finally be able to play with the beloved prequel characters Darth Maul and Yoda! As well as other prequel characters on the way including; Grievous, Obi Wan, Anakin and Dooku!

But, unfortunately, upon release the game was made pay to win. Something which upset the entire community and has haunted the game ever since. However, thanks to the amazing team at EA and Dice they listened to the community, made the game fair and balanced and created an amazing Star Wars experience for all fans to enjoy.

The final update was released a few days ago and had everything we wanted. Adding a new skin for Darth Maul and Palpatine something many fans have been wanting and ending of the game just how the last one did with the battle of Scarif. As George Lucas said it rhymes. Many fans have taken to social media to thank the amazing team who worked on this game especially Ben Walke who was the community manager from not long after release until a couple of months ago.

We do not yet know whether there will be a new Battlefront game however I feel like it’s likely that there will be especially with the new generation of consoles arriving next year. Personally I believe it will be released in the next 5-10 years as the devs themselves have said they are satisfied with bringing an authentic battlefront experience to all with this game. However I’m sure the community will band together to make sure it will happen.

What would you like to see in the future battlefront games and how do you feel about the redemption SWBF2 has made from it’s patchy launch in 2017?
